Tantra in the Marketplace

February 04 2011

Experiencing Tantra in the marketplace… I grew up in Germany where things get done on time, by contract, exactly and reliably. Nowadays, I appreciate the German way for being structured, disciplined and organized; an environment with systems that work. Being a good German girl, that’s the way I like it, and if things are not working out that way, it can be quite challenging for me!

Steve & Lokita Carter’s July Newsletter

July 12 2010

I’ve always had this thing about concrete pours. When our garage was built, a large concrete slab had to be poured. I was in my element – appreciating the four strong men (all friends of ours), muscles rippling, in their glorious intensity and full focus, moving that fast-drying concrete around as if their lives depended on it.

Thich Nhat Hanh says, “True love does not just choose one person. When true love is there, you shine like a lamp. You don’t just shine on one person in the room. That light you emit is for everyone in the room. If you really have love in you, everyone around you will profit – not only humans, but animals, plants, and minerals. Love, true love, is that. True love is equanimity”.

Can you surrender judgments to the possibilities of the moment?

On the packed Amtrak train from Rhinebeck to New York City I sit down next to Ronnie from Rochester. Ronnie is what my judgmental mind would describe as a motor mouth, a simple and charming man in his late 40ties. Sitting next to him for the first 15 minutes, I listen to a myriad of different facts about his life, his long train journey, his plans for the destination. I am wondering how I could politely tell him that I’d prefer some silence. When I can’t find the right words, I finally let it go, resigning myself to listening to him for the rest of the journey – another 90 minutes. Then the sweetest thing happens – I see that he is quite entertaining and a beautiful man after all!

Relieving Menstrual Cramps through Tantric Practice

May 12 2010

The breath and the inner flute are the keys to dissolving those pesky menstrual cramps!

The other day my period came on heavy during a workshop. Usually, on that day of the month I like to be in hiding, away from the world. Tantric practice is the last thing on my wishlist on that day! My cramps are strong and last for several hours. And because I enjoy that feeling of lightheadedness and floating in space, I rarely ever take a pain pill. Not even when the bleeding starts in the middle of the workshop!
